They gleam in the sun and neigh in the night."

MC Katarina
(Ruminaja Bahjat x Hodina x *Talal)
Straight Egyptian - Al Khamsa
4-28-1989

This Half-sister to our treasured MCF Nicole is out of the mare Hodina by the great *Talal and by the Ruminaja Ali full brother Ruminaja Bahjat (Bahjat means "Laughter" or "Happiness" in Arabic). The outstanding Ruminaja Bahjat became known in the United States as a producer of some of the finest broodmares and was exported to Argentina to stand as Frederico Zichy-Thyssen's Foundation stallion where he was bred to his best mares, producing some of Zichy-Thyssen's most prized foundation broodmares still producing foals today. Ruminaja Bahjat was bred to Hodina just months before his exportation to Argentina, making MC Katarina one of the last of the Bahjat daughters born in this country. MC Katarina is also one of the last of the coveted Ruminaja Bahjat daughters to be still producing foals in the United states and elsewhere.

*Talal ("The Prince") was one of the most well-known stallions of his time. At the time of his importation, a photo was taken of this imposing horse that was published in a magazine causing a huge stir within the industry. *Talal was literally one of the main reasons the Arabian breed took off by leaps and bounds at that time! *Talal produced 229 purebred foals of every color including Black, many of them becoming Foundation breeding stock for many other breeding programs, both Straight Egyptian and Domestic. Hodina was bred to Ruminaja Bahjat resulting in 4 foals, one of which was exported to Brazil. After the exportation of Ruminaja Bahjat, she was later bred to El Hilal and Ansata Ibn Aziza, producing 2 more foals, one of which was exported to Canada. Both exported mares were prized as broodmares and remained in breeding programs abroad. Of the 6 total foals, 4 were mares and two of those were eported as valuable broodmares. MC Katarina is one of only 2 of those remaining in the United States, and the only mare still producing foals.

MC Katarina has had a total of 3 foals- 2 colts born to a Theegyptianprince son Amir El Zarka and one filly to our Ibn Naseri- all Straight Egyptian, Al Khamsa foals, all Grey. (See Siriously Untouchable) The filly's registration is pending, but the 2 colts were never able to be registered due to MC Katarina's longterm involvement in a legal battle which was not resolved until 2002 when we stepped in and purchased Katarina and ended the fight. MC Katarina had been purchased from Carole and Jim King of King's Crest Arabians many years before, with the promise of Registration Papers "in the mail". (See the story "The Long Way Home") They never arrived, and after several years of promises it was later discovered after Carole King's imprisonment for Neglect of her many Straight Egyptian horses in Missouri and her subsequent flight to the state of Texas, that she had actually stolen the mare from her previous owner after signing a contract at Kehilan Arabians to purchase Katarina. It was only after tracking the owner down after months research and his willingness to sign the mare over to us that she was finally restored her rightful heritage. Huge thanks are due to Brenda Schuettpelz in Michigan for the lead that finally brought us to eventually finding the owner of Katarina, and Mill Creek Farms for their willingness to sign the mare over to us to finally end her saga and give her back her rightful place in Straight Egyptian heritage. After years of contemplating the right thing to do, we are placing a link to Katarina's story as a warning to others, and a primer on your options for restoring registration to horses provided for by the Arabian Horse Registry at the bottom of this page. It is our hope that it will help others avoid a legal battle of this kind, and hopefully restore the heritage of other valuable Arabians that have been lost to similar circumstances.

MC Katarina is offered for sale in foal to the buyer's choice of Antiquity Hill Farm stallions or open. Price: $3500 or possible trade for another Straight Egyptian, Al Khamsa Chestnut mare. She will be bred to WDA Orion or Al Azhar WDA in the spring of 2005. She is an excellent, affectionate mother and an easy breeder. She is open at this time only because of my own health circumstances which hospitalized me during the 2004 breeding season. All of the outside mares were bred, but all but one of our own were left open for better timing in 2005. We offer Payment plans as well as payment by all major credit cards. Contact me at the farm for more information. This is an excellent opportunity to add a world class broodmare to your program that will cross on today's bloodlines for a rock bottom price. Email me for more information

Congratulations to Michelle Herbolsheimer, owner of Windy Hill Sport Horses - Tekamah, Nebraska . She is now the proud owner of MC Katarina. Michelle plans to Breed Katarina, so check out her website and write her a note. I’m sure she’ll keep us updated next year when Katarina once again produces an athletic, beautiful Straight Egyptian baby.
