The Zeenafis Project
Born July 4, 1984, Zeenafis left no question in anyone's minds that, with handling and training by Keith Kritchke she was headed for a superbe show career. Out of the Grey mare Sarieta, who was herself a daughter of the Magnificent and unforgettable Legion of Merit winner *Saroukh (imported from Egypt as a 2 yr old in 1970), Zeenafis was still no doubt her sire's daughter. Moniet El Nafis stood at Imperial Egyptian Stud siring a dynasty of Show horses, Brood mares and Race horses. His foals were Halter champions, Performance champions, Race champions and record breakers, and record breakers at public auction and private treaty sales. Like her sire, Zeenafis could captivate you with her flawless body and undeniable presence. Like her sire, her body is smooth, with one of the most exceptional shoulders you can find: well laid back with a shapely neck, and a hip and croup that are level and long. Her fluid English Pleasure motion and high flag tail carriage takes your breath away. To this day, out of the hundreds of horses I have had the opportunity to experience, she is one of the kindest, smoothest and easiest mares that I have ever had the distinct pleasure of riding.
Moniet El Nafis, "The Priceless One" was a unique an valuable individual. He was 50% the blood of Moniet El Nefous, considered one of the most valuable mares in a Straight Egyptian pedigree. This represents the highest percentage of her blood obtainable in America other than her direct progeny, in fact, all four of Moniet El Nafis' female lines go to Moniet El Nefous. No one mare has been more significant to Egyptian breeding than Moniet El Nefous. Through her blood flowed the vitality of spirit, the classic beauty and elegant refinement sought by true connoisseur of the finest Egyptian Breeding. These qualities continued to live and flourish in her grandson, Moniet El Nafis. Moniet El Nafis exhibited all of the classic appeal and commanding quality that is expected of a stallion so intensely line bred. His was a significant opportunity and responsibility to contribute refinement, elegance and type to future generations. Moniet El Nafis played a hugely important role in the breeding program at Imperial Egyptian Stud. His shameful demise in the hands of the Millionaire clothing designer Paolo Gucci (see the article Moniet El Nafis- A Pearl of Great Price) was a loss to the Arabian breed of which we will never know the full implications. Nafis was pure in the strain Saklawi for two generations. Moniet El Nafis was twice Top Ten Scottsdale and had mulitple championships in both halter and performance.
Zeenafis is known at Antiquity Hill Farm as a friend of the children who come to visit, and a foster mom to all the foals pastured with her. Time has not been kind to our Zeena and she is no longer beautiful as she once was (see the article ). A fall through a frozen pond and a collision with a plate glass window have left their marks. She is now blind on her left side, but when she survived a nearly fatal bout with West Nile Virus it became clear to us that Zeena would not be leaving us any time soon. She is now regrettably offered for sale to the right home, but will stay here until that time in which we feel we have found the right situation for her. She has given too much to our family- such devotion requires repayment. If we could keep her until she dies, we would. My health forces this sale or she would live out her days here on our farm. Zeena is priced at $1000.
Although she has a very commendable show record, and produced our 1999 Missouri Arabian Riders and Breeders' Society Futurity Champion Colt by our SE stallion Ibn Naseri, An Indigo Moon, Zeenafis has never been truly able to make her mark on the Arabian breed as we had so hoped. As she is one of the last of the coveted Moniet El Nafis daughters still alive today, it is our sincerest desire that we might be able to see her have a filly sometime soon so that her line will continue at our farm in perpetuity. To this end, she is currently in foal to the black Arabian stallion Amon Rih Bazrah (El Ad Bataa x Baheia Bint Amon x Aziza Malachi) for a late 2005 Sport Horse foal. After that, she will be bred to WDA Orion for an outstanding 2006 foal in hopes of finally getting that filly for which we have been waiting.
Sold to Eddy Morse, Oklahoma. We have chosen a wonderful home for our Zeena. I think this is a match made in heaven. Eddy wanted his first Arabian horse to be one that would need him and love him as much as he would need and love her. He wants nothing more from her than her love, and has promised to keep her until the day she dies peacefully at his farm. Every Arabian mare should be so lucky….
