We are very excited to present Es Stars of Orion as one of our exceptional 2005 foals.  (For photos and info on sire and dam, please see their pages on this website)

Minstrilssamantha aka “Sammy” went into labor about 11 at night.  As this was her first foal, we decided to keep an eye on her via our foaling camera and only assist if we found it necessary, thereby allowing the bonding process to take hold naturally before we would begin the imprinting process.  Sammy pawed and did laps in her stall for several hours before it became apparent that things were not progressing as they should.  Ellen went out to check on her.  As soon as she entered the stall, Sammy relaxed and stopped her frantic circling.  After a few moments it looked like she was ready to finally have her baby, so Ellen went to the house to get an OB sleeve, leaving Elizabeth in the aisleway to keep an eye on Sammy.  With her people now present and keeping her “safe”, Sammy finally laid herself down to begin pushing. 

Sammy is so very much a “people horse”, usually preferring the company of her special people over the other horses.  Because of her initial reactions to us being with her during the foaling process, we allowed several other members of the “barn gang” to come and watch as well as film the arrival of her son.  The video you can download and watch is what was taken by the foaling camera above her.  It is a wonderful example of the process of birth as nearly every moment was captured on film.
